1. Introduction

Backloggr (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and share information about you when you use the Backloggr app (“Service”), available worldwide on Apple’s App Store.

By using Backloggr, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. Data Controller

3. Data We Collect

Account Data

  • Nickname (chosen by you)
  • Profile picture (optional, uploaded by you)
  • Apple ID token (used only for authentication; we do not receive your Apple ID email unless you choose to share it)
  • Authentication provider reference (Sign in with Apple)

Game Library Data

  • Games added to your library, wishlist, or lists
  • Play status, ratings, notes, reviews, and completion dates you enter
  • Owned platforms, play times

Import Data (Optional)

  • Steam: Your Steam ID and public game library (requires your permission)
  • PlayStation Network: Your PSN credentials and game library (requires your permission)
  • Xbox: Your Microsoft credentials and Xbox game library (requires your permission)

We store import tokens securely in the iOS Keychain on your device. We do not store your PSN or Xbox passwords.

Reviews

  • Reviews you write are stored in Apple’s CloudKit public database and are visible to other Backloggr users.
  • Reviews include your nickname, verdict, and review text.

Technical Data

  • App version, iOS version, device model (included only in feedback emails you initiate)
  • No analytics SDKs, no advertising identifiers, no crash reporting SDKs are used.

4. How We Use Your Data

  • To provide and sync your game library across your Apple devices via iCloud/CloudKit
  • To display your public reviews to other Backloggr users
  • To enable nickname uniqueness checks
  • To import your game library from third-party platforms (Steam, PSN, Xbox) when you request it
  • To respond to feedback or bug reports you send via email

We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or sell it to third parties.

5. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

For users in the European Economic Area (EEA), we process your data under the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance: Processing your account and library data is necessary to provide the Service.
  • Legitimate interests: Displaying public reviews is a core feature of the app that benefits all users.
  • Consent: When you choose to import data from Steam, PSN, or Xbox.
  • Legal obligation: Where required by applicable law.

6. Data Storage and Security

Your personal data is stored via Apple’s iCloud/CloudKit infrastructure. Apple’s data centers are certified under ISO 27001, SOC 2, and other security standards. Apple’s own Privacy Policy applies to their infrastructure.

Public reviews are stored in CloudKit’s public database and are accessible to all Backloggr users.

Import tokens (Steam, PSN, Xbox) are stored exclusively in the iOS Keychain on your device and are never transmitted to our servers.

We do not operate our own backend servers. All data sync happens through Apple CloudKit.

7. Third-Party Services

Apple CloudKit / iCloud

Your library and account data is synced via Apple’s CloudKit. Apple’s Privacy Policy applies.

IGDB (Twitch / Amazon)

Game metadata (covers, descriptions, ratings) is fetched from IGDB, operated by Twitch Interactive, Inc. No personal data is sent to IGDB.

Steam Web API (Valve Corporation)

When you connect your Steam account, your Steam profile and game list are fetched via Valve’s public Web API. Your Steam ID is stored locally. Steam’s Privacy Policy applies.

PlayStation Network (Sony Interactive Entertainment)

When you connect your PSN account, your game library is fetched via PSN APIs. Your access token is stored in the iOS Keychain and never leaves your device. Sony’s Privacy Policy applies.

Xbox / Microsoft

When you connect your Xbox account, your game library is fetched via Microsoft APIs. Your access token is stored in the iOS Keychain. Microsoft’s Privacy Policy applies.

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data.

Data shared with other users:

  • Your nickname and profile picture (if set) are visible to other users on your public reviews.
  • Reviews you write are publicly visible in the app.

We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics companies.

9. Data Retention

  • Your library and account data is retained in CloudKit as long as you keep the app installed and your iCloud account active.
  • Public reviews remain visible until you delete them within the app.
  • When you delete your account via Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account, your local data is deleted immediately. CloudKit private data is deleted through iCloud’s standard deletion propagation (typically within 30 days). Public reviews and your nickname record must be deleted manually via the app before deleting your account.

10. Your Rights

All users

  • Access: View all data stored locally in the app
  • Deletion: Delete your account and all data via Settings → Danger Zone → Delete Account
  • Portability: Your data is stored in Apple’s ecosystem; you can export it via iCloud

EU/EEA users (GDPR)

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
  • Right to rectification (Art. 16 GDPR)
  • Right to erasure / “right to be forgotten” (Art. 17 GDPR)
  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR)
  • Right to object (Art. 21 GDPR)
  • Right to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority

California users (CCPA)

  • Right to know what personal information is collected
  • Right to delete personal information
  • Right to opt out of sale of personal information (we do not sell data)
  • Right to non-discrimination

11. Children’s Privacy (COPPA)

Backloggr is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, please contact us at privacy@backloggr.app so we can delete it.

For users between 13 and 16 in the EU, parental consent may be required under GDPR (Art. 8). Age requirements may vary by country.

12. International Data Transfers

Your data is stored by Apple on CloudKit servers. Apple may process and store data in the United States and other countries. Apple uses Standard Contractual Clauses and other mechanisms to ensure adequate data protection for international transfers.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.
